ABOUT
Hi, I’m dawn.
Posture Works was born from the experience I have had from the age of 12 living with a left lumbar scoliosis and I am now 60. Those living with a scoliosis and other spine/back conditions will understand how incredibly hard it can be finding the right help and trying to work out how to move effectively and efficiently without causing injury or pain.
Understand that you are NOT alone in your journey.
MY APPROACH
Packages and sessions are tailored to the unique needs of each person, taking into consideration the biological, psychological, and social factors. My integrative approach, facilitates healing and wholeness weaving in somatic and embodiment practices that can make a real difference to clients’ wellbeing and lives.
I believe there is no one modality that ‘fixes all’ or suits every person which is why I trained in various modalities to allow me to have a specific toolkit of techniques and strategies. You can find all my qualifications here.
MY OWN JOURNEY
My scoliosis first became noticeable around the age of 12, when I began to notice my pelvis shifting to one side. My clothes started to hang unevenly, and something just felt off in my body. I was referred to a specialist and spent the next few years attending appointments every six months. Eventually, I was fitted with a Boston Brace, which I wore until I stopped growing.
By the time my growth plates closed, my lumbar curve had reached 30 degrees and was considered stable. I was told to “just keep your back strong”—and that was it. No guidance, no follow-up. So, I did what many of us do: I tucked it away, got on with life, and largely forgot about it.
Fast forward to my early 40s. I was doing high-impact workouts almost daily, pushing through discomfort, and not really listening to what my body was trying to tell me. Then, I herniated a disc. That injury triggered a long and painful 15-month journey of recovery—one that brought me back into relationship with my spine in a much deeper way. During that time, I also discovered that my lumbar curve had progressed significantly—to 65 degrees.
I first turned to yoga as a way of coping with scoliosis and the lingering effects of back problems. What began as a personal tool quickly became a powerful practice that supported both my physical and mental wellbeing. The more I practiced, the more I realised how much yoga was helping me reconnect with my body—building strength, awareness, and a sense of calm.
This led me to complete my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training, which included modules on yoga for pre- and post-natal pregnancy. Alongside this, I also completed my Personal Training qualifications, followed by training as a Kettlercise® instructor.
In 2021, I began my professional scoliosis-specific training, starting with Elise Browning Miller’s Yoga for Scoliosis, Parts 1 and 2. This deepened my understanding and shifted the way I approached both my own practice and how I work with others. A natural progression from there was completing my Level 3 Mat-Based Pilates qualification.
I further expanded my scoliosis-specific knowledge by qualifying in Scolio-Pilates® and Scoliosis and Spinal Conditions Masters Course - Polestar. These trainings have deeply shaped the way I work, allowing me to blend mindful movement, strength work, and body awareness into a supportive, tailored approach for those navigating scoliosis and spinal conditions.
I have experienced first-hand how scoliosis affects both the body and mind and my aim is to support others who are fighting the same battles.
